Join our Bulk Buying Group

Uncas Farms offers a bulk buying group through United Natural Foods based in Chesterfield, NH.  United Natural Foods is a  wholesaler providing a full line of natural grocery products and organic produce. Participating in the bulk buying group allows you to purchase larger quantities at lower prices. They offer both organic and non-organic foods as well as non-food items such as supplements, cleaning products, and personal care items.

To participate in the bulk buying group through Uncas Farms you will need to do the following:

• pick up a bulk buying group packet at the store; this includes a catalog subscription form, our order form, and more details about how the group works
• beginning in November, 2004 catalogs may be purchased at Uncas Farms for $1/each.

As you may know Northeast Cooperatives recently merged with United Natural Foods (UNFI).  The Northeast Cooperatives warehouse in Brattleboro, VT closed and all operations have moved to UNFI’s new warehouse in Chesterfield, NH.

Beginning with the July catalog, you will see many changes in product (more to choose from!) as well as some changes in policies and order formats.  I want to explain those now so that you can be ready to fill out your July order.

New Delivery Schedule:

Order due dates and pick up dates will now be on Wednesdays.  Orders are due by 6:30 p.m. and pick up is anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  UNFI is still working on their transportation schedule so I cannot guarantee that this will not change again.

Pricelists:

Pricelists will be published using UNFI’s product numbers, product descriptions, brand abbreviations and other information.  Please refer to the inside cover of the  pricelist and review the “How to Read The Pricelist” section before you fill out your order form.

Grocery Eaches:

Many grocery items sold as “eaches” will now require a minimum purchase of 3 units.  UNFI is calling these “Min 3’s.” They are identified in the pricelist as “M3” in the Pack/Min Size column.  You may order 3, 4, 5, or more of “Min 3” items, but not less than 3.   If you order less than three units, UNFI will automatically send three and your order and price total will be adjusted.

Returns:

UNFI has a strict return policy so you will need to be very careful when filling out your order form.  They will not accept any returns for wrong product numbers.  This means that if you order it you must take it!  All other returns such as those for damaged products, mis-picked items, quality issues, short dated product, etc. must be reported and returned to Rebecca within four business days of receiving your order.

Rainchecks:

UNFI has a different raincheck policy for buying clubs than for retail stores.  Our pre-order buying club is considered “retail” so the raincheck policy does not apply.  I will re-order out of stock items for you throughout the month, however, once the month changes I can no longer get you the previous month’s sale price.
 
 

In addition to the changes being made with the merger, the time has also come for us to make a few changes to our pre-order group policies.

Minimum & Surcharge:

Beginning with the first July order, we will be implementing a $35 minimum (before surcharges, taxes, and bottle deposits) for all pre-orders.  Since the objective of the pre-order buying club is to get a better price by ordering in bulk, we felt a $35 minimum was reasonable for this program. You may still place a special order for an item(s), but if it is less than $35 we will charge you the suggested retail price with no additional surcharge.

Also beginning in July, the surcharge will increase to 8%.  We have not changed the surcharge since beginning the pre-order buying club eight years ago.  Due to increased costs, a decrease in volume discounts, and the amount of staff time involved we felt that an increase was necessary at this time.

Pick Up:

Please remember that you are expected to pick up your order on the designated pick up day unless you have made other arrangements with Rebecca.  We really appreciate your cooperation with this matter.  We have so much that happens at the farm that it is cumbersome for us to have to find a place to store your order.  We are especially limited on freezer and refrigerator space.
