2004 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Frequently Asked Questions:

What's a CSA?

A CSA brings together community member, farmers and agricultural land in a relationship of mutual support based on an annual commitment to one another, a commitment that ensures the survival of local agriculture today and for future generations.

How does it work?

There are many kinds of CSAs. All include payment in advance at an agreed price. Participation implies a willingness to share with the farmer both the bounty from the land and the risks of its production. A farmer receives fair and guaranteed compensation and in return sharers receive a variety of freshly picked vegetables and fruits. The farmer and sharers become partners in the production, distribution and consumption of locally grown food.

What are the benefits?

Supplies the community with fresh, reasonably priced produce, provides the farmer with the start up funds to begin the growing season and an estimate of how much to grow, keeps food dollars in the local community and offers an opportunity to celebrate nature and community.

Winter Storage Requests!

Let us know ahead of time what you would like for winter storage vegetables. This will help us to determine how much to grow to meet your needs and assures you that we've put that amount aside for you.

Winter storage vegetables include: potatoes, onions, carrots, winter squash, garlic, beets, and both green and red cabbage.

Supplies may be limited due to weather conditions and/or demand.

Guidelines for 2004 CSA

The minimum share is $100 and you can purchase additional shares in $50 or $100 increments. You may purchase multiple shares.

Sign up and pay for your share by April 30 and receive a 15% discount.

You may purchase any Uncas Farms produce from the retail store with you share between mid-May and December 31. This excludes U-Pick berries.

You must use your share within this time period. There will be no refunds for shares not used by December 31.

Produce will be clearly marked in the store as "Uncas Farms". Produce from other local farms and our distributors is not included in the share.

Maple syrup and other "Non produce" items made at Uncas Farms are not included in the share.

An account will be created for your share. Produce purchased will be deducted from your account until you have used up your share for the season. Any other items purchased in the store will be totaled and paid for separately.

As a participant you agree to share the ups and downs of nature with us, and depending on the growing season, we may have limited supplies of certain items.
