Harry Smith Lord

Amos Lord's older brother.
Born: May 1864
Died: Dec 1928

At left, Harry's card from his 60 India Street shop in Boston. Many years ago a customer gave me a very light cotton sail with Harry's logo in the corner. It's very small, and I've kept it in a sailbag. At this point it must be 75 years old.
Harry Lord seemed to be something of a mover and shaker. As well as his success as a sailmaker, he often had shares in vessels. As in all things maritime, this was seldom without risk. Pictured below is one of these investments; the Pendleton built four masted Schooner ANNA G. LORD named after Harry's wife. She was launched Aug. 27, 1919 and abandoned 16 months later in a heavy blow with a cargo of salt on her way back from Setubal Portugal. Captain James Abbott and crew were all rescued by the British Steamer QUEEN ELIZABETH. A model of the ANNA G. LORD.
